Hi angels, welcome back to yet another blog! In this blog, I’m going to be doing something a little bit different and writing to give mamma’s out there some ideas about working from home and generating a sustainable income.

Lots of people want to work from home for various reasons, whether that’s flexibility, being your own boss, convenience, personal choice and so forth. However, with so many opportunities out there, it may be confusing or overwhelming to decide, well, what type of job can I do from home and also generate a sustainable income.

Don’t worry, what we won’t be doing, is suggesting that you go and join all these marketing surveys, that take ages to fill in and you might be lucky you get a voucher at the very end if you’re lucky and haven’t already given up with the questionnaire! So go get that cup of tea or coffee and get settled into brainstorming some new career opportunities.
A big misconception that many people have is that they are always looking for ways to make money, but very quickly. Let’s be frank, anything worth doing, require time investing into it. So if you’re serious about working from home, and want to make a high income, you need to GRAFT. You need to be willing to put in the time, the effort in order to see the fruits of your labour or so to speak.

So, lets get started. Job number one is a virtual assistant. This is just like a personal assistant but works from home, normally for a small number of different clients. Clients benefit from this because they get the help they need to run their business without the hassle, cost or risk of employing someone. Typically, a person can charge around £10 to £35 an hour, depending on your experience and the length of contract or agreement you have with your client.
Career path number two is a graphic designer. You definitely need to be creative for this role, have an eye for detail and obviously have the software skills for this. But if you don’t already specialise in graphic design, but are really interested in doing so, you can always teach yourself. This may mean, doing a few projects for a lower rate, just to build up your portfolio and client base. However, once you are up and running, a freelance graphic designer can earn anything between £15 – £40 per hour.

This brings me to my final top paying, work at home job, which is a translator. We live in a world now, where there is so much diversity, and with diversity comes lots of different cultures and most importantly, different languages. A lot of us can speak more than 1 language, but to make a career out of it? Now, that would be fantastic! There is a real big need for translators and all you need to be able to do is speak fluent English as well as be fluent in another language. It also helps to be able to multitask.
Usually for work like this, you would get paid per job or session, as you may need to do a telephone translation, virtual translation or even attend a meeting which can last longer than an hour. IT’s up to you whether you prefer to offer an hourly rate or charge per session but this is usually within the range of £50 – £200 per session.

With all 3 x suggestions, its important for you to be persistent, as you may not see results right away and that is okay. Because all good things take a bit of time. Have a plan of action, set yourself some goals and most importantly understand your target market and how to reach them. Give your client a reason to buy into YOU and your skill set. Make sure you have a unique selling proposition, so you stand out from the competition. This will help build your client list and also develop your experience.
